Different Career Options: Dance As A Performing Art

By Peggy Ryersen

In the medieval times, anybody who was not well versed in any sort of dance form be it a classical dance form or a traditional dance form was considered not to have been born under a dancing star. The idea that there was a star, which controlled the ability of a person to dance, in itself shows that any sort of dance form is an integral part of the social, ethical, traditional, and cultural heritage of each and every civilization out there.

There are so many ways of expressing yourself through dance from the simple romantic dancing through the night with someone, or perhaps the beat of the bongo drum accompanied by rhythmic jumping while shaking your spear in the same fashion. Perhaps there is simply the waving of hands in the air which is like saying "I'm so happy that I just want to dance".

Throughout time, many dance forms have been developed. This could be an uninterrupted dance form styles, like is the case with classical types including the waltz or ballet. However, nowadays there are also modern or relatively new dance forms, such as hip hop, jazz, Charleston or break dancing. Newer dance forms may have had their origins in classical dances, but have developed in their own unique way. The point is to use your body to show creativity and flexibility. By doing so you let the world know that you understand rhythm and you can also express your feelings.

There are numerous competitions of dance consisting of many types of dance styles. This is a great career option for someone who believes they can train their group of dancers to go to the top and win the competition. One example of these dance types include the 1930's style of dance, tap dancing, waltz, tango, or even the Highland Dance competitions.

Choreography is all. Imagine a musical like Cats not being choreographed perfectly, with all the cats supposedly doing their own thing, but in a manner which makes it seem natural. Imagine the Cats singing rhythmically, but not knowing what to do with their hands and their feet. That is where a choreographer comes in. He is so well-versed in the art of dance that he is going to tell the dancer/singer to lift up one arm high, when she is hitting high C. That is going to give her diaphragm, chest and lungs more space to expand. So if you think that you know about the coordination of dance, rhythm and song, choreography is the career for you.

Another option for those wanting to work in the performing arts is ballroom dancing. This career path will allow you to travel around the world and participate in competitions where you can win prizes. Latin dance competitions are also open for professional performers, as well as traditional dance competitions. Other possibilities include dance instruction, dancing coach, Pilates teacher or yoga instructor. - 29951
