Is Your Fat Point Determined By Your Genes?

By Mikey Van Deen

Many people think everybody has a preset fat point. This means at some stage the body reaches a predetermined optimal fat level. This idea has been followed for a long time but is in fact wrong.

The body's fat point is determined from the individual's lifestyle.

While there are various different body types that are determined by our genes the percentage of fat that we carry around in our body is not due to the genes that we have inherited. It is due to the food that we have been eating from the beginning of our life to the stage where we are at presently.

Let's say you have been eating too much for a number of years. Let's say you have retained a certain percentage body fat for a certain time. This then becomes your fat point and you can influence it directly by the lifestyle choices you make.

When you remain at a certain fat point you body adapts to accommodate it. It will develop capillaries and connective tissues. It will develop muscle to aid the body's movement. It will set new hormone levels to try to keep the body in balance.

You see, you are the one who sets the fat point and your body is just doing what it can to keep things in balance.

Now your body will always be monitoring that fat point. Perhaps you decide to go on a crash diet course. Your body will see this as an attack on the nice status quo it has developed and it will try to correct the situation. Very often the body burns lean muscle to keep fat.

Sadly, many people are resistant to the idea. They prefer to blame it on their genes. It is easier for them to deal with if they believe there is nothing they can do about it.

The fact is that everyone is capable of lowering their fat point through changing their lifestyle. You need to build lean muscle tissue and increase your metabolism. Eating more healthily and exercising regularly will lower your fat point. - 29951
