Are Carbs A Helper Or An Enemy For Fat Loss And Healthiness?

By Stanley G Woods

The past few years have seen a sudden increase in the greatly widespread low carb diets. Carbohydrates have been portrayed as the opponent of fat loss and healthiness. So are carbohydrates the trouble or is there more to the story?

The body's number one source of energy is carbohydrates. Fat and protein are too important and they can provide energy, however, the body needs to work harder to translate those sources. Some carbohydrates are necessary, however, because the human brain functions solely on carbs. However, you need to make sure that you are getting the best carbohydrates by depending more often than not on complex carbohydrates and the least processed, most nutritious forms of simple carbs.

There are simple carbs for instance white sugar and white flour products and there are complex carbs like oatmeal and whole grain products. Simple carbs will influence your blood sugar levels quickly and the energy you get will be more strong but burn out quickly. Complex carbohydrates are released more little by little and they offer sustained energy for a longer interlude of time.

You may think that you should only eat the complex carbs and completely do away with the simple carbohydrates, however, that may be a error because some of the most nutritious fare ever found in nature are in reality simple carbs.

The truth of the matter is that there are many very healthy and valuable foods that are simple carbs. Not candy bars and pastries of course, but some of the most nutritious fare on the planet are composed of simple carbs. The majority of fruits and even some vegetables are considered to be simple carbs. Yet, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, peaches, nectarines, the goji berry and the acai berry and truly all fruits for that matter, are all exceptionally rich in nutrients and antioxidants and they are a very good addition to a healthy nutritional regime.

Simple carbohydrates are best included in your diet in their natural form. Whole fruit is superior to juices because the whole fruit also comprises fiber and other nutritional value that are removed during the juicing process. However, juices can be good for your health in moderation and since the acai berry can only be located in processed states outside of Brazil, acai berry juice is specially healthy when eaten in moderation.

If you consume too many simple carbs and simple sugars, especially white flour and white sugar products, it can lead to weight gain and ill health. Simple sugars create wild fluctuations in blood sugar levels, which causes unwarranted insulin in your body and that can be very detrimental for wellbeing and weight.

It is harmful to do away with carbohydrates from your nutritional regime totally. You can, however, make superior choices by selecting more complex carbohydrates and the healthier, less processed simple carbs such as whole fruit. - 29951
